Staffies have been known to get a bad rep. In the past, there have been reports that the Staffordshire Bull Terrier can be quite an aggressive breed and this, coupled with their muscular appearance and big jaw, has led to an increase in Staffies ending up in rescue centres. Ultimately, all dogs are a reflection of their owners and are a product of the upbringing they’ve had. It’s true that any breed can become troubled or aggressive if placed in the wrong hands.
The reality of the situation is that Staffies are actually amazing dogs with loving dispositions and extremely kind hearts. Here at TastyBone, we can’t get enough of this loveable breed and aim to dispel the myths surrounding them. We give you: five reasons why Staffies are the best dogs in the world.
They’re affectionate
They may look tough, but there’s nothing a Staffordshire Bull Terrier loves more than a good cuddle with their owner. Staffies are highly affectionate pets and would go to the end of the earth for those that care for them. They develop really close bonds with their owners and would do anything to protect them from harm. Rather than worrying about aggression, you’re only real worry with a Staffie is getting licked to death!
They’re super clever
As long as you follow a consistent routine, Staffies are actually really easy dogs to train. They pick up new tricks relatively quickly and will do anything as long as there’s a treat involved. They’re very intelligent and owners are advised to start training while they’re young- as they do have a mind of their own and can be a bit mischievous if left to their own devices!
They’ve got big personalities
Whilst Staffies are highly adaptable dogs that respond well to training, they can also be a bit on the boisterous side (and we wouldn’t want them any other way!). Staffordshire Bull Terriers are known for being friendly and fun breeds, with larger than life personalities to match. They’re courageous, reliable, loyal and downright fearless; as a pet parent could you really ask for more from a pup? Staffies also love to communicate with the people around them and can vocalise themselves in their own particular brand of cuteness!
They’re great family dogs
Contrary to what some people might think, Staffies make excellent family dogs. When socialised from an early age, they really enjoy playing with kids and other dogs and are extremely protective when it comes to their pack. They have actually earned the nickname ‘nanny dog’ as it’s well documented how much they love children. Many people train their Staffies to be guard dogs due to their nature, but even if you don’t, you know that you’ll always be safe and sound with your loveable Staffie on watch.
They’re just the cutest
When a Staffie is happy, you sure can tell. They’ve got huge grins that are totally infectious to everyone around them. Staffies are gorgeous dogs that are both super cute as puppies and as adults- and their playful, childlike behaviour just increases their appeal.
Ultimately, Staffies deserve love and care just like any other dogs. There are many misconceptions about their breed but hopefully we can start to turn the tide and prove that they really are the best dogs around!
